MINUTES                                                                                                                          
BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY
December 19, 2013

A  SPECIAL & TELEPHONIC MEETING of the Board of Public Safety was held in the Mayor's Office on Thursday, December 19, 2013.
 
Those in attendance included Mayor Elinor Carbone, Commissioner Douglas Benedetto and Commissioner Glenn McLeod. Police Chief Michael Maniago was also present. Commissioners Angelo LaMonica, Darlene Battle, Richard Zaharek and Robert Conforti participated via telephone.

Mayor Carbone called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.

EXECUTIVE SESSION – Police Personnel
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner Benedetto, the Board voted unanimously to enter Executive Session under Police Personnel at 9:06 a.m., inviting Chief Maniago.

OPEN SESSION
On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to enter Open Session at 9:12 a.m.

HIRE PROBATIONARY POLICE OFFICERS
On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner Conforti, the Board voted unanimously to accept the recommendation of the Police Personnel Subcommittee to hire Mark Blasiak and Daniel Lovallo as probationary Police Officers whose hire date will be at the discretion of the Chief of Police.  

Chief Maniago explained that the hire date is determined by the week's worth of administrative items that need to be done before these officers start at the Academy on January 3, 2014.

Commissioner Benedetto asked about the status of current Police manpower.  Chief Maniago replied that these two new hires bring the Department to full strength but with anticipated retirements, they will be down four Officers by May 2014.
ADJOURNMENT  
On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to
adjourn at 9:15 a.m.
